Executive Director Message - Sunday, November 01, 2009
A Message From the Executive Director Let the Holiday Luncheon Be Your Office Holiday Party!
One of the Chamber's most fun-filled events, the Holiday Luncheon, is coming up quickly! Bypass footing the bill on a holiday party at the office and bring your staff to the Chamber's Holiday Luncheon event. This special luncheon does not feature a speaker, but rather focuses solely on a huge array of donated baskets by chamber members. All the baskets follow fun themes like: martini, italian, wine, chocolate, coffee, fishing, tea, family game night, beauty, relaxation and so many more. The doors open at 11:30 and the event goes until 1:30 pm. Buy raffle tickets for $1 each and put them in the box that corresponds for each basket - so you only win what baskets you want! This event is made possible by the sponsorship of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt Law Offices.
Basket donors enjoy publicity in our chamber's newsletter for the December and January editions, as well as publicity on our website and at the event in the programs. Baskets need to be a minimum retail value of $100 each. If you would like to donate a basket to the event contact the chamber office and let us know your theme so there are no duplications. If you don't have time to create a basket, the chamber staff would love to do it for you! Let us know what theme you would like and for a $25 fee, we can do it for you! Sign up now to attend, this is a sell-out event! read more ... |

President's Message - Sunday, November 01, 2009
A Message from The Chamber PresidentDamon Webster of MacKay Sposito, Inc
Election day is upon us and it is important that you vote. The Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce is encouraging a no vote on Initiative 1033.
I-1033 would lock in this year's recession-level state, county and city budgets as baselines and apply a rigid and arbitrary formula to decide how much could be spent in the future. It uses the same formula as the "TABOR" law passed in Colorado, which led to deep cuts to public schools, roads and highways, and children's health care. In fact, from 2001 to 2006, employment grew in Colorado by less than half a percent, while employment grew in surrounding states by an average of nine percent. Things got so bad that voters suspended the law in 2005. Initiative I-1033 would have similar negative consequences here. Our community needs more opportunities, not more obstacles slowing economic recovery.
The Camas-Washougal Chamber of Commerce, after careful examination of the facts, has taken a position against I-1033. Many other Chambers of Commerce across the state, along with the Association of General Contractors, the Washington Realtors Association and SW Washington Medical Center are also against I-1033. So are organizations of fire fighters, teachers, and olice officers. To learn more about I-1033 visit http://no1033.com/ read more ... |
